NEW! 3 days on the Hudson - the GHRP '06

I I have just returned from 3 days kayaking the Hudson on the GHRP 06 (see below or my feature in Wavelength magazine for details!). I wanted to do the whole trip but this year there was not enough time.

The 3 days were fun, but HOT. I arrived during the New York heat wave and on day 2 during a 22 mile paddle from Norrie Point to the Chelsea Yacht Club we experienced 96 degree temps with high humidity and a heat index that put us over 100. We lost a few paddlers that day with heat exhaustion (a reminder to all to drink plenty of water), but I felt strong and happy to be back among friends and on the “river that flows both ways.”

The next day was a reprise of the great Cold Spring War Water Fight with local members of Cold Spring. A fun way to cool off. It is a beautiful area and if you ever have a chance to visit don’t miss it.

Paddling the Hudson River 2005

In 2004 some of my fellow kayak instructors at UCLA told me about a trip they went on – the Great Hudson River Paddle. 150 miles, 10 days from Albany to Manhattan.

When I heard about the trip I knew I had to go. Despite that I was leaving for Africa a month later I went. It was hot, humid, rainy and a great trip. I met some great people, got to see some incredible sites, learned a lot about the history of the river and how many people can say they are in Manhattan and they arrived by kayak?
